A Ulysses Pact is a freely made decision that is intended to bind oneself in the future.
The term refers to the pact that Ulysses made with his men as they approached the Sirens. Ulysses wanted to hear the Siren’s song, although he knew that doing so would send him temporarily insane.
He overcame this by ordering his crew to lash him to the ships mast, so that he could not escape, to stuff wax in their ears, so that they could not hear, and to row past the island no matter what.
In this sense, he decided on his future actions at a time when he was most in control.
The Ulysses Pact app enables its users to do the same. Users commit to fulfilling small, achievable goals, whilst at their most motivated, that they are then bound to. Its intention is to help users make good on their future commitments and ultimately take control of their lives.
